This article is fantastic. I did not realize that I have set myself up for success by following the \"5 ways of jumpstarting a weight loss program\". Last year, I decided to lose weight. Except for \"know portions\", I have always been doing the 4 steps that you identified So, last year, I immediately started my food diary. I tracked my weight against what I ate. One day, as I was reading my food diary, I began to realize that a portion of my weight gain was due to all the liquid drinks (i.e. frapaccinos from Starbucks, cappucino blast from Baskin Robins) that I was drinking. I also realize that I had to re-learn \"portions\". Well, between the elimination of the capuccino drinks and portion control, I am proud to say that I have successfully lost 18 pounds!

Oh yes, as part of tracking my weight, I also track my BMI, percent body fat and the waist to hip ratio (i.e. resulting number should be less than 0.85). You did not mention this in your article. As a suggestion, you might like to consider this.

Yup, couldn't agree more. And I'd like to add that you've got a great colour scheme on your site, I suffer with colour blindness and many webmasters don't give us a second thought!

Yes, unfortunately all of it is true. The scary part is that the FDA has been approving many types of vaccines without much real evidence that they even help or prevent anything. The fact is that since we have started "requiring" vaccines the incidence of childhood conditions like ADHD, Autism, neurological problems and even allergies have been linked to the excessive use of vaccines. Dr. Joseph Mercola's website has a host of information including resources proving the dangers of the swine flu shot. www.mercola.com for more info.

Fish oil is nasty, full of mercury, and completely unnecessary for Omega3 consumption. Other sources are ground flax seeds, walnuts, canola oil, hemp seeds, broccoli, spinach, perilla, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, tahini, grape oil, tofu, wheat and acai..

Humans are also alone in drinking the milk of others. The hormones, antibiotics, and other additives are not the only concern in milk products. Even "organic" or "free range" dairy cows are handled inhumanely. They are continuously forced through the birthing cycle & forced to lactate during gestation; their day old male calves are sent to veal crates to finish their 6-7 week, motherless, lives on a short leash; they get sores & infections on their udders, making antibiotics necessary; are sent to slaughterhouses (another horror all its own) at just 3 or 4 year old; and are subject to all manner of disease. In addition, milk is not much more than an appetizing conglomeration of water, pus, and blood. The following article describes many physical ailments linked to over-consumption of milk, including leukemia, juvenile diabetes, and a plethora of cancers:

The ability to digest milk in adulthood was a bonanza for earlier generations of people. For most of history people didn't have refrigeration or supermarkets, they had to eat what was locally available. Especially if you lived in a place with a short growing season and long winters it would be a huge asset to be able to get your calories, protein and fat from milk because: you wouldn't have to kill your animals, they could keep giving milk over and over; milk that isn't consumed immediately can be preserved for the future as yogurt and cheese. If you possessed the ability to digest milk in adulthood you would have a survival advantage over those who didn't have access to those calories. Europe has that type of climate and the trait for digesting milk in adulthood is widespread among Europeans. People didn't drink milk because they 'forgot' about the laws of nature, they did it because it kept them alive.

Great question.
Most people are not aware that the milk of most mammals varies considerably in its composition. For example, the milk of goats, elephants, cows, camels, wolves, and walruses show marked differences, in their content of fats, protein, sugar, and minerals. Each was designed to provide optimum nutrition to the young of the respective species. Each is different from human milk.

In general, most animals are exclusively breast-fed until they have tripled their birth weight, which in human infants occurs around the age of one year. In no mammalian species, except for the human (and domestic cat) is milk consumption continued after the weaning period. Calves thrive on cow milk. Cow's milk is designed for calves.
Cow's milk is the number one allergic food in this country. It has been well documented as a cause in diarrhea, cramps, bloating, gas, gastrointestinal bleeding, iron-deficiency anemia, skin rashes, atherosclerosis, and acne.
It is the primary cause of recurrent ear infections in children. It has also been linked to insulin dependent diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, infertility, and leukemia.
Hopefully, you will reconsider your position on using milk as a form of nourishment. Small amounts of milk or milk products taken infrequently, will likely cause little or no problems for most people.
