I mentioned in an earlier post that Omega 3 Fatty Acids are on my top 3 supplement list for good reason. Omega 3 Fatty Acids are also called Essential Fatty Acids because our body can not make them on its own. They must come from outside sources, the highest concentration of which is in cold water fish like salmon and sardines, but they can also be found in nuts like walnuts and almonds. As for the other two recommended supplements, a good quality Mulitvitamin/Mineral supplement that is preferably food-based, and a joint supplement that has Glucosamine in it. A food based multivitamin will not usually have synthetic forms of vitamins that can’t be fully utilized by the body. Glucosamine will help your joints maintain joint cushioning cartilage, especially important for active people and those over thirty. After age thirty our bodies slow down production of the proteoglycans that make up the cartilage matrix, it then starts to thin out and voila, you have joint pain! There you have it 3 supplements that will get you started on the road to better health.
Decrease Stress with Fish Oil
A daily supplement of 400mg each of DHA and EPA fish oils helps stave off stress and increase happiness according to researchers at the University of Pittsburg. People with high levels of these two fatty acids are less impulsive, more agreeable and happier. If you aren’t taking any supplements, these Omega-3 fatty acids are on my top 3 “must-take” list for many reasons that will be in a future post. Any guesses as to what the other two “must take” supplements are?
Welcome!
